Central Plateau lodge to be demolished
Tenders are being called for the demolition of Bernacchi Lodge at Lake Augusta on Tasmania’s Central Plateau.
The Parks and Wildlife Service Acting Northern Region Manager, Stan Matuszek, said that recent expressions of interest processes failed to secure an interested party taking on the site.
“The site is no longer required by the Tasmanian Government and having exhausted all practical options for the building’s future, a decision has been made to demolish the building and rehabilitate the site,” he said.
Bernacchi Lodge was built by the Commonwealth Government in 1981 as an acclimatisation and training centre for the Australian Antarctic Division. It originally provided hostel style accommodation for 60 people and has been vacant since 2000.
